Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State – July 20, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja today for Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, to attend the eighth-day prayer ceremony of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
Oba Adetona, who reigned for over six decades, passed away recently, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as one of Nigeria’s most respected monarchs. His leadership was known for promoting unity, traditional values, and modern development in Ijebuland.
The eighth-day prayer is a significant traditional and religious event, where family members, dignitaries, political leaders, and the public gather to honor the memory of a departed leader.
President Tinubu’s presence at the ceremony reflects his longstanding relationship with the Awujale and the people of Ogun State. He is expected to join other national leaders and royal dignitaries in paying their respects.
Security has been tightened in Ijebu-Ode to manage the large turnout of mourners, government officials, and guests attending the event.
