BENIN CITY — A woman who was reportedly declared kidnapped by her family has been found in a hotel in Delta State after police investigations allegedly revealed that the abduction had been staged.

The woman, identified as Oluchi, had initially been reported missing under circumstances that led relatives and members of the public to believe she had been abducted. According to reports, family members began raising funds after receiving ransom demands said to have originated from suspected kidnappers.

The case gained wider attention after the woman’s children, including a daughter residing in Canada, appealed publicly for financial assistance. Family members had claimed the abductors initially demanded ₦50 million before reportedly reducing the amount to ₦20 million.

According to the account provided to authorities, the woman was believed to have been kidnapped in the Ikpoba Hill area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area in Edo State. Police subsequently launched an investigation into the incident.

However, investigators reportedly traced the matter to Delta State, where the woman was eventually located in a hotel alongside a man identified as her lover, bringing the alleged kidnapping narrative into question.

The development has sparked discussion over the emotional and financial toll such incidents can place on families and communities, particularly where emergency fundraising efforts and law enforcement resources are involved.

Authorities had not publicly disclosed additional charges or legal steps connected to the matter at the time of reporting.

The case adds to ongoing concerns over false emergency reports and the burden such incidents can create for both families and security agencies.
