TORONTO, CANADA — Toronto police have charged a 62-year-old man with impaired driving after he allegedly struck three pedestrians near Woodbine Casino before leaving the scene, authorities said Friday.
According to investigators, officers were called to the area shortly before 11 p.m. following reports of a collision involving pedestrians. Emergency crews responded and located injured individuals at the scene while police launched an immediate search for the driver.
Police said one of the victims, a 26-year-old pedestrian, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released details regarding the conditions of the other pedestrians involved.
Investigators later located and arrested the suspect away from the scene. The accused now faces six criminal charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, leaving the scene of an accident, and impaired operation.
The incident has renewed concerns around impaired driving and pedestrian safety in Toronto, where authorities continue to urge motorists to avoid operating vehicles while under the influence and to remain alert in areas with high foot traffic.
Police have not announced whether additional charges could follow as the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are expected to continue reviewing evidence and witness accounts related to the collision.
