BORDEAUX, FRANCE — Canada’s women’s rugby sevens team booked a place in the semifinals of the final leg of the HSBC SVNS World Championship Series after defeating Fiji 29–14 in quarterfinal action on Saturday, continuing the team’s push for a strong finish to the international season.

The Canadian side delivered an impressive attacking performance led by Savannah Bauder of North Vancouver, British Columbia, who scored three tries and added two conversions to help secure victory. Additional tries came from Carmen Izyk of Blackie, Alberta, and Pamphinette Buisa of Gatineau, Quebec, as Canada controlled key stretches of the match.

The result sends Canada into a semifinal showdown against New Zealand, with the championship final scheduled later Sunday at Stade de Bordeaux. In the other semifinal matchup, Australia will face the United States as teams compete for the overall title.

Canada entered the tournament seeking improvement after fourth-place finishes in the opening two legs of the World Championship Series held in Hong Kong and Valladolid, Spain. The competition format combines results across all three events to determine the overall world champion.

The Canadian women’s sevens program arrives in Bordeaux carrying momentum from recent international performances and continues to build on its status as one of the world’s leading rugby sevens nations following its Olympic silver medal campaign in Paris.

Attention now turns to the semifinal encounter against New Zealand, where Canada will seek a place in the championship match and an opportunity to close out the series with a title-winning performance.
