Trump Defends Naval Blockade as Iran War Disrupts Global Oil Supply

U.S. President Donald Trump has defended his administration’s naval strategy against Iran, describing U.S. actions as necessary despite criticism that the blockade resembles piracy.

According to a report by Arab News, Trump dismissed concerns over the U.S. Navy’s enforcement of a blockade on Iranian ports, even as critics argue that such tactics could violate international norms.

The escalating conflict between United States and Iran has significantly impacted global energy markets. Iran has reportedly restricted most vessels from passing through the Strait of Hormuz—a critical shipping route responsible for roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supply.

The crisis began after coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets in late February, which prompted retaliatory attacks by Iran on Israeli positions and Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases.

Since then, the conflict has intensified, with thousands reported killed and millions displaced across affected regions. The situation has also led to sharp increases in global oil prices, raising concerns about economic instability worldwide.

Trump’s remarks have drawn criticism both domestically and internationally, particularly after previous statements in which he threatened severe actions against Iran. Some experts have warned that aspects of the military campaign could raise serious legal and humanitarian concerns.

Despite the backlash, the U.S. administration maintains that the blockade and military operations are aimed at pressuring Iran into negotiations and preventing further escalation.

As the conflict continues, the international community remains обеспокоен about the risk of a wider regional war and its potential impact on global trade and energy security.
