At least 13 people have been killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, raising fresh concerns about violations of an existing ceasefire agreement in the region.
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the strikes took place on May 2, 2026, targeting multiple locations in southern Lebanon, including the town of Habboush. The attacks killed eight people in Habboush alone, including a child and two women, while more than 20 others were reported injured.
Additional strikes in the town of Zrariyeh resulted in the deaths of four people. Another attack in Ain Baal, near the coastal city of Tyre, killed one person and left several others wounded.
Reports indicate that the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings to residents shortly before the strikes, advising them to leave the targeted areas. However, according to local sources, the airstrikes were carried out less than an hour after the warnings were given.
The Israeli military stated that the operations were in response to alleged violations of the ceasefire by Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group operating in southern Lebanon.
The ceasefire agreement, reached on April 17, was intended to end weeks of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. However, continued attacks on both sides have raised serious doubts about the effectiveness and durability of the truce.
Eyewitnesses described heavy bombardment and rising smoke across the affected areas, as emergency responders rushed to rescue victims and assess the damage.
The latest escalation highlights the fragile nature of the ceasefire and the ongoing risk of renewed conflict in southern Lebanon, as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah remain high.
