The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, has intercepted a luxury commercial bus loaded with military camouflage uniforms and suspected cannabis products valued at about N259 million along the Idiroko border corridor.
According to customs officials, the seizure was made during an operation targeting smuggling activities in border communities within Ogun State. Authorities disclosed that approximately 200 pieces of military uniforms were recovered alongside large quantities of cannabis concealed inside the vehicle.
The Comptroller of the Ogun I Area Command said the interception reflected the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat trans-border crimes, including the illegal trafficking of prohibited substances and unauthorized possession of military materials. Officials noted that the seized military uniforms posed serious security concerns, particularly amid growing cases of criminal elements disguising themselves in security apparel to commit crimes.
Customs officers also stated that the suspected cannabis shipment had an estimated street value running into hundreds of millions of naira. The luxury bus conveying the contraband was reportedly intercepted during routine surveillance and intelligence-led operations near the border axis.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of suspects linked to the seizure, but investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the items. Security agencies are also expected to collaborate with customs officials to trace networks involved in the smuggling operation.
The Nigeria Customs Service has repeatedly warned against the smuggling of military gear and illicit substances, stressing that such activities threaten national security and public safety. Officials reiterated their commitment to strengthening border enforcement and prosecuting individuals involved in economic sabotage and organized smuggling activities.
