The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned attacks on its embassy and the residence of its head of mission in Damascus, Syria, describing the incident as acts of vandalism and assaults against its diplomatic presence.

According to an official statement released on April 4, 2026, the UAE Foreign Ministry denounced what it called “riots, acts of vandalism, and assaults” that targeted its diplomatic facilities in the Syrian capital.

The government emphasized that the attacks also involved what it described as unacceptable insults directed at national symbols of the UAE, further heightening the seriousness of the incident.

In its response, the UAE called on Syrian authorities to take immediate responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of the embassy and its staff. Officials urged the Syrian government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and to take necessary steps to prevent any recurrence.

The statement reaffirmed the UAE’s strong rejection of any actions that violate diplomatic norms and international conventions, particularly those protecting embassies and foreign missions.

Diplomatic missions are considered sovereign territory under international law, and attacks on such facilities are viewed as serious breaches that can strain bilateral relations. Analysts note that the incident comes at a time of heightened tensions across the Middle East, where multiple conflicts continue to impact regional stability.

While no casualties were immediately reported, the attack has raised concerns over the security environment in Damascus and the safety of foreign diplomatic personnel operating in the region.

The UAE has urged swift action from Syrian authorities to restore confidence and ensure that diplomatic operations can continue without threat or disruption, as the broader regional situation remains volatile.
