United States President Donald Trump has issued a dramatic 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, demanding the reopening of the critical Strait of Hormuz or face severe military consequences, as tensions in the Middle East continue to intensify.

According to reports published on April 4, 2026, Trump warned that Iran must “make a deal” to fully reopen the strategic waterway, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes. He cautioned that failure to comply within the stated timeframe would result in what he described as “all hell” breaking loose.

The ultimatum follows a series of escalating threats and deadlines issued by the US administration in recent weeks. Trump had earlier threatened to target Iran’s energy infrastructure, including power plants, if Tehran failed to allow safe and unrestricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes, with roughly one-fifth of global oil shipments passing through the narrow channel. Any disruption to its operation has immediate implications for global energy markets and international trade.

Despite the strong rhetoric, Trump indicated that diplomatic engagement had taken place, noting that previous deadlines were extended following what he described as “productive conversations” with Iranian officials. However, the latest ultimatum signals renewed urgency and rising frustration within Washington.

Analysts warn that potential strikes on energy infrastructure could significantly escalate the conflict and may violate international laws governing wartime conduct, particularly if civilian facilities are targeted.

The development comes amid an already volatile regional situation, with ongoing military exchanges between Iran, the United States, and allied forces, as well as attacks on critical infrastructure across the Gulf.

As the deadline approaches, global attention is focused on whether diplomatic efforts will prevail or if the situation will spiral into a broader and more destructive phase of conflict in the Middle East.
