A series of violent shootings in the town of Grand Falls-Windsor has left residents shaken, with one person dead, another seriously injured, and a suspect now facing a first-degree murder charge, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Police say the first incident occurred on April 8, when officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on Main Street. A victim was found with serious, life-threatening injuries and later airlifted to St. John’s for advanced medical care. Authorities also located a suspect vehicle nearby, where a second individual was found dead, though police said that death was not considered criminal.

Just two days later, a second and more deadly incident unfolded in the early hours of April 10. Officers responding to a call at a home on Crescent Heights discovered a woman deceased inside the residence. A suspect present at the scene was arrested without incident.

The suspect, identified by police as 52-year-old Ivan Loder, has since been charged with first-degree murder and appeared in court shortly after his arrest. Investigators say the victim and suspect were known to each other, and authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the general public.

The back-to-back incidents have deeply affected the small community, where residents and officials describe a growing sense of unease following the violence. Local leaders say the shootings have shaken what is typically considered a quiet and close-knit town, prompting calls for increased police presence and community support.

In response, RCMP officers have increased patrols in affected areas, and the Major Crimes Unit continues to lead the investigation into both incidents. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as efforts continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shootings.

While police maintain that the incidents were targeted and isolated, the events have reignited broader concerns about public safety and violence in Canadian communities, particularly in smaller towns unaccustomed to such tragedies.

As investigations continue, residents of Grand Falls-Windsor are left mourning the loss of life and grappling with the emotional impact of a week marked by violence, uncertainty, and calls for greater security measures.
