A member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, has died after a period of illness, marking a significant loss to the country’s legislative body and political community.
The late lawmaker, who represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, reportedly passed away on Friday evening, April 10, 2026, in Abuja. He was 66 years old.
His death was confirmed in an official statement by the House of Representatives, which described the development as a “profound loss” not only to the National Assembly but also to his constituents and the nation at large.
Before his death, Hassan served as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and was actively involved in several key committees, including Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, and Treaties and Agreements.
Elected into office in 2023, he brought decades of experience to the legislature, having previously risen through the ranks within the National Assembly bureaucracy and retiring as a Permanent Secretary before entering partisan politics.
Colleagues and officials described him as a dedicated and experienced legislator whose contributions significantly shaped legislative development and constitutional processes in Nigeria. Many of the country’s laws, according to tributes, bear his professional imprint as a legal draftsman and parliamentary expert.
Tributes have continued to pour in from political leaders, including the Speaker of the House, who extended condolences to the lawmaker’s family, constituents, and the people of Kano State.
According to reports, Hassan will be buried on Saturday, April 11, in accordance with Islamic rites.
His passing adds to a series of recent losses within Nigeria’s legislative circles, further highlighting concerns about continuity and experience within the country’s governance institutions.
