Abuja — Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi has publicly denied allegations of sexual harassment and owing a businesswoman ₦200 million, dismissing the claims as unfounded and part of a deliberate online campaign to intimidate him. Speaking to journalists following an inspection of the Onitsha–Awka–Enugu Expressway project, the former Ebonyi State governor characterized the accusations as “distractions” and insisted he will not be “bullied” on social media.

The allegations — which have circulated widely in online videos and posts claim that Umahi owes Tracynither Ohiri, a businesswoman, ₦200 million for promotional materials allegedly supplied during his 2014 governorship campaign. Rumours also included accusations of sexual misconduct linked to the dispute. Umahi firmly rejected these claims, asserting that those spreading them are motivated by jealousy over his performance and commitment to quality work.

According to the minister, the matter is already before the courts and should be resolved through legal channels rather than on social platforms. “I cannot be bullied on social media. If you are paid to insult me on social media, it won’t shut my mouth,” he said, urging critics and accusers to present evidence in court rather than resorting to unverified narratives online.

Umahi also addressed broader criticisms related to the claims, telling reporters that no amount of online pressure will derail his work or disrupt the road projects he is overseeing on behalf of the Federal Government. He highlighted progress on the Onitsha–Awka–Enugu expressway, noting that concrete sections of the road are nearing completion, and urged contractors to meet deadlines ahead of the rainy season.

In defending his stance, the works minister emphasized his focus on serving President Bola Tinubu, advancing infrastructure development, and fulfilling what he described as his call to serve both God and Nigerians without distraction.

Umahi’s comments come amid ongoing debate in Nigeria over the role of social media in shaping public perceptions of political figures and the importance of due process in resolving allegations of misconduct particularly when they involve serious personal and financial claims.
