Three Canadian residents have been arrested after authorities discovered multiple forged passports and other suspected fraudulent items during a border inspection at the Peace Bridge crossing in Fort Erie, Ontario, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The incident occurred when the individuals were returning to Canada after accidentally driving toward the United States border and being redirected back to the Canadian side, where border officers conducted a secondary examination of their vehicle.
During the inspection, officials from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reportedly discovered six forged Canadian passports along with equipment believed to be used in the production of fraudulent documents.
Authorities also seized about $84,000 in Canadian and U.S. currency, dozens of credit and debit cards, gift cards, and drug paraphernalia during the search.
The investigation was later taken over by the RCMP Niagara-on-the-Lake Border Integrity Unit, which charged the suspects with several offences, including knowingly possessing forged documents and possession of fraudulent financial cards.
Police identified the suspects as Domenico Cherubini, 51, of Granby, Quebec; Minh Nguyen, 40, of Montreal; and Christian Ndizeye, 33, also of Montreal.
Authorities say the suspects are facing multiple criminal charges related to forged documents, financial fraud, and possession of stolen or fraudulent cards, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The Peace Bridge crossing between Fort Erie, Ontario, and Buffalo, New York, is one of the busiest land border points between Canada and the United States, making it a key location for border security and anti-fraud enforcement operations.
Law enforcement officials say the seizure highlights the importance of routine inspections and intelligence-based investigations aimed at preventing identity fraud and document forgery at international border crossings.
