A coalition of pro-Biafra groups has announced plans to organize a “One Million March” to demand the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu.

According to the coalition, the planned protest is aimed at drawing national and international attention to Kanu’s continued detention and pressing the Nigerian government to secure his freedom.

The organizers said the demonstration would bring together supporters from different parts of the country and the diaspora who have been advocating for the release of the IPOB leader. They maintained that the march would serve as a peaceful show of solidarity with Kanu and a demand for what they described as justice in his ongoing legal case.

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has remained in detention since he was re-arrested in 2021 and brought back to Nigeria to face charges related to terrorism and other allegations filed by the federal government.

His case has remained one of the most controversial legal and political issues in Nigeria, particularly in the southeastern region, where many supporters view him as a symbol of the Biafran self-determination movement.

The coalition stated that the planned march is part of a broader campaign to keep international focus on Kanu’s case and to push authorities to respect court rulings and legal processes surrounding his detention.

Supporters of the IPOB leader have staged several protests and advocacy campaigns in recent years, both within Nigeria and abroad, calling for his release.

As of the time of reporting, Nigerian authorities had not issued an official response regarding the planned demonstration.

The announcement of the planned “One Million March” is expected to further intensify debate across Nigeria over Kanu’s detention and the broader agitation for Biafran self-determination.
