Montreal police have arrested a man previously listed as Canada’s most-wanted fugitive in connection with a fatal shooting in Toronto last year.

The suspect, Bryan Fuentes Gramajo, 24, was taken into custody early Thursday morning by the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough of the city. Authorities confirmed that the arrest took place at about 2:40 a.m. as part of a coordinated investigation with Toronto police.

Gramajo had been wanted in connection with the July 17, 2025 shooting death of Jamal Bentley-Jean, who was gunned down in the parking lot of Yorkdale Mall in Toronto. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, triggering a major homicide investigation by Toronto police.

Investigators believe Gramajo is linked to Zone 43, a Montreal-based street gang with connections across several Canadian provinces, including Ontario and British Columbia.

The suspect had been listed at the top of the BOLO Program’s most-wanted list, a national initiative that highlights dangerous fugitives across Canada and encourages the public to assist police with information that could lead to arrests.

Montreal police said the arrest was carried out in collaboration with the Toronto Police Service, which is leading the homicide investigation tied to the Yorkdale Mall shooting. Officials praised the joint effort between law enforcement agencies that ultimately led to the capture of the fugitive.

Following his arrest, Gramajo was scheduled to appear in court in Montreal later the same day as authorities begin legal proceedings connected to the murder charge.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing, with another suspect, Jimmy Prudent, still wanted in connection with the same killing. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the remaining suspect to contact police.

The arrest marks a significant development in the high-profile case and removes one of the country’s most sought-after fugitives from the streets.
