January 3, 2026 | Tsafe, Zamfara State — Dalena Reporters
Armed terrorist on Friday carried out a brazen attack on commuters along the Danjibga–Kalgo Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, setting two vehicles ablaze and abducting all passengers on board, security reports and eyewitness accounts confirm.
According to information gathered by Dalena Reporters and corroborated by security monitoring platforms, the assailants locally referred to as bandits blocked the highway before unleashing their coordinated assault on unsuspecting travellers. After forcing the vehicles to halt, the gunmen seized all occupants and subsequently burned the two vehicles, leaving the road littered with wreckage and flames.
As of Saturday, the number and identities of the abducted passengers remain unconfirmed, and their whereabouts are still unknown, intensifying fears among families and communities across the region. The attack once again underscores the persistent insecurity plaguing major transport routes in northwest Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara where armed groups have repeatedly targeted travellers, motorists, and isolated communities.
Security observers noted that the incident comes just days after a deadly Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on December 27 along the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road that killed at least eight people and triggered an emergency clearance by military and police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units. That preceding operation, conducted under Operation Fansa-Yamma, involved joint efforts by police and military EOD teams to comb the affected highway for further threats and restore passage for motorists.
Despite these security efforts, Friday’s audacious attack highlights the vulnerability of travellers on rural highways, where bandits exploit stretches with limited surveillance and sparse patrols. The abductions and vehicle destruction have renewed anxieties among residents and road users, prompting urgent calls for reinforced security measures and proactive intelligence-led operations to curb the escalating threat posed by armed criminal networks.
Authorities at both state and federal levels have not yet issued formal statements regarding the latest incident; however, the brazen nature of the assault is expected to draw heightened security responses and possible military engagement in the days ahead.
