Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine — Russian drone strikes overnight killed three civilians and wounded at least three others in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, local authorities and emergency services reported on Thursday.
Regional officials said the victims included two women, aged 26 and 50, and a 62-year-old man, who were killed when Russian-launched unmanned aerial vehicles struck residential areas and nearby structures. One private building was destroyed and several others sustained damage as firefighters battled fires sparked by the attacks.
Emergency services released images via social media showing rescue crews at the scene of the destruction. According to Governor Ivan Fedorov, Russian forces carried out 841 strikes across 34 settlements in the region within the prior 24-hour period, underscoring the intensity of the bombardment.
Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 105 drones overnight, of which Ukrainian air defenses were able to intercept 84, with the remainder reaching their targets and causing casualties and infrastructure damage.
In the southern port city of Odesa, Russian drone activity also ignited a fire at an industrial facility, damaging warehouses and trucks, although there were no immediate reports of casualties from that separate incident.
The attacks took place amid ongoing U.S.-brokered peace talks held last week in Abu Dhabi, with further meetings expected in the coming days, even as both sides continue to strike each other’s positions and critical infrastructure.
Russian authorities have not publicly commented on the strikes, and both Moscow and Kyiv continue to deny deliberately targeting civilians in the nearly four-year conflict.
