Nigeria’s Works Ministry Seeks Over ₦1.9 Billion for Office Gear, Vehicles and Community Programs in 2026 Budget

ABUJA — The Federal Ministry of Works has proposed allocating more than ₦1.9 billion from its ₦3.2 trillion 2026 budget for a mix of office equipment, vehicles, generator costs and empowerment initiatives, according to details of the proposed Appropriation Bill published on the Budget Office’s website.

Under the spending plan, the ministry intends to invest in its operational capacity, including:

  • ₦1.06 billion for office furniture and fittings;
  • ₦682 million fo
    r the purchase of motor vehicles;
  • ₦36 million for plant and generator maintenance and ₦23.8 million for general maintenance;
  • ₦200 million to fuel generators, and ₦112 million for general utilities;
  • Smaller allocations for electricity, internet and satellite services, as well as fire safety systems at its headquarters.

In addition to these administrative and asset costs, the ministry has earmarked over ₦500 million for social empowerment programs aimed at boosting economic opportunities in communities nationwide. These initiatives include:

  • Supplying grinding machines to women in Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal Constituency (₦35 million);
  • Training women in hair dressing, make-up and soap making in Plateau State (₦35 million);
  • Providing skills training and trade equipment for youths, women and retirees in Gombe State (₦70 million); and
  • Supplying mini pick-up vans, shuttle buses and motorcycles to residents in Ebonyi State (₦70 million).

Other planned empowerment activities include youth sensitization against drug abuse in Zamfara State and additional targeted support for vulnerable groups.

The ministry’s budget proposal reflects a dual focus on enhancing internal operational efficiency and promoting grassroots socio-economic development, even as national legislators prepare to review and possibly amend the Appropriation Bill during the current budget cycle.
