ABUJA — As Nigeria begins a new year marked by ambitious infrastructural goals and heightened expectations, Federal Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has urged staff of the Federal Ministry of Works to brace themselves for the opportunities and challenges that 2026 is expected to present. The appeal was delivered in the minister’s New Year message to ministry personnel.
Addressing workers on January 1, 2026, Umahi called on ministry officials to approach the year with optimism, teamwork and a readiness to confront difficulties as catalysts for professional growth. He framed upcoming challenges not as obstacles but as “opportunities for growth and transformation” that could propel staff beyond their comfort zones to develop new skills and achieve meaningful results.
“We enter this New Year with fresh beginnings,” Umahi said, emphasising that resilience, faith and collective effort would be essential for fulfilling the ministry’s mandate amid evolving national infrastructure priorities. The minister urged employees to align their personal resolutions with the broader mission of enhancing Nigeria’s road and transport networks, signaling an expectation of renewed productivity and impact in the months ahead.
Umahi’s message aligns with broader statements he has made about infrastructure delivery in 2026, in which he stressed that the year would focus on strategic recalibration, accelerated project execution, and enhanced monitoring of federal road works nationwide. The Ministry is set to sustain high performance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with particular attention to speedier construction and rehabilitation of critical corridors.
By encouraging staff to embrace forthcoming challenges, Umahi’s remarks underscore the government’s intent to move beyond routine operations toward improved efficiency and delivery, even as Nigeria grapples with competing economic and security priorities at the start of the year.
