Jordan’s Armed Forces have commenced the implementation of strategic royal directives from King Abdullah II aimed at restructuring and modernizing the Arab Army to enhance its operational capabilities and readiness for emerging security challenges, officials said on Sunday.
The modernization initiative is part of a broader strategic vision announced by the King to transform the armed forces structurally over the next three years, aligning them with contemporary defence demands, the Jordan News Agency reported.
Under the directives, the military is sharpening its combat and operational capabilities, upgrading command, control and communications systems, and expanding the use of modern technologies including unmanned systems and cyber warfare tools.
The reforms also call for stronger integration among military branches, reinforcement of reserve forces, and improvements in logistics to ensure reliable supply chains for defense operations.
In addition, the plan emphasises support for Jordan’s defence industries to enhance self-sufficiency and efficiency in meeting future security needs.
In a letter to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, King Abdullah wrote that the army “must examine the requirements for modernizing and developing our Armed Forces, while restructuring them to keep pace with combat demands within various environments of operation,” according to the state news agency.
The armed forces said they are fully committed to carrying out the royal directives, which aim to ensure professionalism, preparedness, and adaptability as the region confronts evolving security dynamics.
