Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, arrested a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, on January 23, 2026 in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State for allegedly supplying illicit drugs to members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Sanni Uba, the arrest was made under Operation Desert Sanity V, which targets criminal supply chains and terrorist logistics in the North-East.

Troops acting on credible intelligence said the suspect is alleged to have been one of the suppliers of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram elements operating in communities including Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Abulazeez sourced the illicit substance from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area in Taraba State and transported it through established supply routes for distribution to the insurgents, the military said.

During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa weighing an estimated 30 kilograms, a seizure described as a significant blow to criminal networks supplying terrorist elements.

The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing preliminary investigation, with follow-up operations continuing to identify and dismantle the broader trafficking and distribution network linked to the supply of the substance.

The Joint Task Force emphasised that the interception underscores efforts to disrupt illicit supply chains that fuel violence, criminality and instability across the North-East region, and pledged continued pressure against all such networks.
