BOBI WINE ALLEGES DRONE SURVEILLANCE BY UGANDA SECURITY FORCES, SAYS OPERATIVES TRYING TO INFILTRATE HIS NETWORK

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has accused elements of Uganda’s security forces of deploying drone surveillance and attempting to infiltrate his political network as part of ongoing efforts to locate him, Dalena Reporters has learned.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Wine said security operatives visited a location in Busabala, a lakeside area in Kampala, where they questioned facility staff about his presence and attempted to compromise one staff member by offering inducements for information about his movements.

Wine further alleged that an aerial drone was observed hovering over the area the night before, which he described as part of what he termed intensified surveillance by security agencies.

“Operatives went to Busabala. Asked staff if I had been there. Tried to compromise one to tip them off if I come around. There was an aerial drone hovering over the night before,” he wrote.

The opposition figure dismissed the efforts as futile, saying they would not deter him and adding: “I advise them not to waste time on these futile exercises. I will reappear at an appropriate time.”

Wine’s claims come amid heightened tension in Uganda after the January 15 presidential election — a race in which President Yoweri Museveni was declared winner, an outcome rejected by Wine and his supporters amid allegations of fraud and intimidation.

In recent weeks, Wine has raised alarms over military and police raids on his residences, including an incident in Magere, where soldiers allegedly entered his family home and pressured his wife to disclose his whereabouts, claims that the military has denied.

The opposition leader has been largely out of public view since shortly after the election, during which he and many supporters expressed concern for their safety as security forces clamped down on dissent.
