A United States congressman has said that President Donald Trump is focused on ending the slaughter of Christians in Nigeria, framing recent U.S. military action as part of that effort, sources report. Rep. Riley Moore, a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, told Channels Television that the Christmas Day strikes against terrorist positions in Sokoto State were conducted “in coordination with the Nigerian government … to help secure their country and end the slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.
Moore said that Christians in Nigeria have been attacked by terrorists on past Christmas Days and that the Trump-authorised operation marked a shift in approach, with the United States and Nigeria working together to “give the terrorists a taste of their own medicine.” He stressed that Trump’s actions are a “very good first step” toward addressing what Moore described as repeated violence against Christian communities, citing recent extremist attacks in northwest Nigeria.
The lawmaker, who shared excerpts of his remarks and an interview segment, argued that the U.S. strikes reflect a broader commitment to protecting religious minorities facing persistent threats, even as debate continues over the scope and impact of foreign military operations in Nigeria’s complex security landscape.
