The Nigerian Police Force has arrested two suspected terrorist accused of orchestrating multiple kidnappings and criminal activities across several states in northern Nigeria, authorities confirmed. The suspects were apprehended following coordinated operations by tactical units in the Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, and Kwara regions as part of intensified efforts to dismantle armed criminal networks terrorising communities.
According to a statement from the Force Headquarters, the duo whose identities have not yet been disclosed are believed to have participated in a string of abductions, ransom demands, and armed robberies that have plagued travellers and residents along key highways and rural areas. Police said that evidence gathered at the time of arrest links the suspects to multiple kidnapping cases and the recovery of weapons and mobile phones tied to ransom negotiations.
Security operatives also recovered ammunition, police‑style uniforms, and other incriminating items from the suspects, suggesting they may have impersonated law enforcement personnel to carry out their criminal acts. The Force Public Relations Officer reaffirmed the police’s commitment to bring kidnappers and bandits to justice and urged the public to cooperate by providing actionable intelligence.
The arrests come amid ongoing concerns over banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping for ransom in northern Nigeria, which have driven displacement and insecurity in rural communities and along inter‑state travel routes. Police stated that follow‑up investigations are underway and that the suspects will be charged in court as authorities continue efforts to ensure public safety and curtail violent crime.
