Super Falcons Drop to 37th in FIFA Rankings but Remain Africa’s Top Women’s Team

ABUJA — Nigeria’s Super Falcons have slipped one spot in the latest Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Women’s World Ranking falling from 36th to 37th globally but crucially remain the highest-ranked women’s national team in Africa, according to the December rankings released on Thursday.

The ranking shift follows a period of relative inactivity for the Super Falcons, who did not play any matches during the most recent FIFA women’s international window. As a result, while other nations gained or lost ranking points through competitive matches and friendly fixtures, Nigeria’s point total remained static triggering a slight slide in position.

Despite the minor global drop, the Super Falcons’ status at the top of the African women’s game remains secure, a testament to their enduring strength and legacy on the continent. South Africa, Ghana, Zambia and Morocco round out the top five African nations in the latest rankings.

On the global stage, Spain retained the world’s number-one women’s football ranking, followed by perennial powerhouses the United States, Germany, England and Sweden.

The Super Falcons historically one of Africa’s most successful sides, with multiple Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles will be looking to reclaim or improve their world ranking once they return to international action in upcoming fixtures.
