In a gesture of cross-continental solidarity, Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has committed to covering the funeral expenses for the four victims — aged between 8 and 21 — who lost their lives in a mass shooting during a children’s birthday party in Stockton, California.
The tragic attack, which occurred on November 29 at a banquet hall known as “Monkey Space,” left four dead and left 11 others injured when gunfire erupted amidst what was supposed to be a celebration.
Burna Boy, whose legal name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, said he first learned of the tragedy while listening to “The Breakfast Club” radio show. Deeply moved, he reached out through his industry contacts including manager Wack 100 to connect with Stockton’s Vice-Mayor and offer financial support to the grieving families.
“No family should ever face this kind of pain alone,” Burna Boy declared in his statement. He added that he wanted to do “whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”
Local officials and community leaders in Stockton have expressed gratitude for the singer’s intervention. Vice-Mayor Jason Lee described the act as a powerful demonstration of compassion that could offer some comfort to families facing unimaginable loss.
As of now, law enforcement continues its investigation into the shooting. No arrests have been confirmed yet, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
