ABUJA — Major opposition parties have accused Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of lacking a coherent strategy to tackle Nigeria’s deepening security crisis and relying instead on empty rhetoric.
Spokespersons for Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) told The Dalena Reporters in an exclusive interview that the government’s recent call on herders to surrender illegal weapons and move to ranching overlooks the real root of insecurity: lack of effective policy, poor intelligence coordination and failure to protect citizens in vulnerable communities.
According to the opposition, the administration has been “misdiagnosing” the country’s security challenges adopting what they describe as symbolic measures rather than a practical, comprehensive response. The parties claim that mass abductions, massacres and attacks on villages and highways have continued unabated, despite public assurances and “security plans.
The criticism resonates with earlier warnings from civil-society and political critics who argue that increased funding and expanded security-personnel recruitment championed by the government are insufficient without tackling institutional corruption, improving intelligence systems, and guaranteeing accountability within the security architecture.
As Nigeria grapples with recurring violence, kidnappings, and bandit-led attacks across large swathes of the country, opposition voices insist that unless the government moves beyond rhetoric and implements tangible reforms, calls for its accountability or even resignation may intensify. Dalena Reporters will continue to track responses from the presidency, reactions from security experts, and evolving political pressure in coming days.
