In a severe escalation of violence in northwestern Nigeria, armed assailants linked to the group known locally as “Lakurawa” launched a late-night attack on a camp belonging to the Nigeria Customs Service in Maje community, Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to local sources, the attackers arrived in large numbers, opened fire indiscriminately on the camp and killed many customs officers on the spot. The camp facility was then set ablaze before the assailants withdrew into surrounding terrain.
A resident who witnessed the incident said:
“The terrorists came in numbers and started shooting sporadically. Everyone ran for safety.”
As of the filing of this report, neither the Kebbi State Government nor the Nigeria Customs Service has issued a formal statement concerning the attack, the number of casualties, or the state of the facility after the assault.
This attack adds to a growing catalogue of violent incidents attributed to Lakurawa and other non-state armed actors in the region, who have repeatedly targeted security infrastructure, border posts and rural communities. Analysts say their operations exploit weak security presence in remote border areas, deepening fears of state fragility and civilian vulnerability.
