Kano — At least more than eight people were abducted by suspected terrorists in Biresawa village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, even though residents claim they warned security operatives before the attack.
According to local sources, the gunmen struck between 11 p.m. and midnight, targeting both men and women. Kabiru Usman, whose wife and 17-year-old daughter were among the victims, said the attackers entered on foot from a neighbouring village and were heavily armed.
Residents say they had prior intelligence that the bandits were approaching: “We notified the military and police — we had the numbers; they told us to call if we saw anything,” a community member told Sahara Reporters.
Eyewitnesses report that as many as 50 bandits on motorcycles attacked Sarmawa, Yan Chibi, and Gano villages in Tsanyawa LGA, firing into the air to sow fear before carrying out the abductions. Vigilantes and residents gave chase, but the attackers reportedly fled across the border into Katsina State.
Despite the chaos, there were no confirmed fatalities, but the incident has renewed calls from local leaders for more robust and proactive security deployment across the border communities.
