In Nigeria: CAN Says 215 Pupils, 12 Teachers Christians Abducted from St. Mary’s School in Niger State By Terrorist

Abuja / Minna — The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, has confirmed the abduction of 215 pupils and 12 teachers by Islamic Jihadist from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.

According to Daniel Atori, media aide to the CAN chairman, the assault occurred between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., in what is being described as a coordinated raid by suspected Islamic Jihadist Terrorists.  CAN says the attackers invaded the school’s hostel and kidnapped students and teachers, while a security guard was shot during the attack.

Reacting to the incident, CAN chairman in Niger State, the Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, expressed deep concern for the safety of those abducted.  He said CAN is working in close collaboration with security operatives, community leaders, and government authorities to secure the swift and safe release of all the victims.

In its response, the Niger State Government blamed the school management, accusing it of ignoring an earlier directive to close boarding schools — issued after intelligence reports warned of increased threats in the area. Meanwhile, the police and military have deployed tactical teams into the forest around Papiri, according to local security sources.

CAN is calling on all Nigerians to remain calm and prayerful, and urged parents to continue cooperating with rescue efforts.
