In a bid to strengthen downtown presence and community trust, Regina Police Service (RPS) has officially launched a satellite office inside the Cornwall Centre shopping mall. The newly opened space, unveiled on November 13, is located at the east Saskatchewan Drive entrance of the mall.
Unlike a traditional storefront station, the Cornwall Centre office is not open to the public for crime reporting. A sign plainly directs visitors to call 911 for emergencies or use the non-emergency line for other concerns. Instead, the office is designed to serve as a functional base for the Downtown Safety Team, including both RPS officers and Alternative Response Officers, enabling them to complete administrative work, conduct checks, and maintain a visible presence in the core.
Acting Police Chief Lorilee Davies emphasized that the goal is not to respond faster to calls but to make officers more visible — increasing public confidence and providing a constant presence downtown. She noted the office will also support foot patrols, offer a place for bike parking, and act as a point of community engagement.
For the Cornwall Centre, the collaboration represents a landmark security partnership. General Manager Katie Dockham said the space is being provided by the mall at no cost to the police, underlining the shared commitment to downtown safety. The mall is betting that the added police visibility will attract more shoppers and give the public peace of mind.
Chief Davies echoed this sentiment, stating that a visible police presence can help shift negative perceptions of downtown and encourage more people to frequent the area.
