Dangote Petroleum Refinery Pledges to Supply 1.5 Billion Litres of Petrol Monthly — Promises to Ease Fuel Shortages in Nigeria

LAGOS — The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has formally notified the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of its readiness to begin supplying 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) monthly equivalent to roughly 50 million litres per day  starting December 2025.

In a letter dated November 30 and signed by the refinery’s Chief Executive Officer, David Bird, Dangote said it will continue providing 1.5 billion litres in January and plans to ramp up supply to 1.7 billion litres per month (about 57–60 million litres daily) from February 2026.

To ensure transparency and build public confidence, the refinery invited NMDPRA officials onsite from December 1 to independently verify and publish daily production and stock levels. The company also requested smooth regulatory clearance for crude, feedstocks, and product lifting by vessel to avoid delays and extra costs. 0

Dangote affirmed that current production levels are between 40 and 45 million litres of petrol per day, but the planned daily supply of 50 million litres should dispel doubts about domestic refineries’ ability to meet national demand. The company said it is also working with marketers to reinforce nationwide distribution, including using Compressed Natural Gas-powered haulage to improve logistics.

Analysts say the move could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s long-standing fuel supply challenges  provided the refinery meets its target, regulatory bottlenecks are cleared, and distribution networks hold up. Dalena Reporters will monitor the rollout, track supply delivery, and report on its impact on fuel availability and prices nationwide.
