MARARABA UDEGE, NASARAWA STATE — A church crusade in Agboda community, Mararaba Udege area of Nasarawa Local Government Area, was violently interrupted on Monday evening when armed Fulani Jihadist Terrorist men attacked the gathering, injuring a worshipper and triggering mass panic among attendees. The attack, which occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., forced the meeting to be abruptly halted as frightened worshippers fled to safety.

According to Dr. Daniel Ukpo, the organiser of the crusade, the trouble began when news filtered in that a nearby village had been attacked. “One of the youths in the community was attacked while riding his motorcycle. He suffered a machete cut and his bike was taken,” he said. The report of the attack sent shockwaves through the crusade venue. Attendees scrambled for cover, and in the chaos the crusade could not continue.

The injured man was said to have sustained a machete wound; his motorcycle was also seized. After the violence erupted, the crusade was suspended immediately out of fear for further danger.

Dr. Ukpo raised alarm over what he described as a recurring security breakdown in the Mararaba Udege axis. He recounted that in previous weeks residents of nearby Ochimi community had voiced fears over personal safety amid repeated attacks and destruction of crops. He added that attacks on roads and farms had become increasingly common, yet many incidents went unreported. According to him, local security presence is inadequate to protect vulnerable communities.

He further noted that religious gatherings in the area have been disrupted multiple times, allegedly by armed herders. “People are being attacked on the roads and on their farms, and many cases are not reported,” he said, calling on government authorities to strengthen security in the region. Residents, he said, feel defenceless, many with no safe place to relocate.

At the time of this report, Nasarawa State Police Command has not issued any official statement regarding the incident. A spokesperson for the command told media outlets they have no record of the attack and that no complaint has been filed. Efforts to verify the location of the disturbance are ongoing, and the command has appealed to anyone with information or who appears in the video circulating online to come forward.

This incident highlights a worrying trend of increased insecurity across Nasarawa’s rural communities. Just months earlier, in June 2025, suspected armed herders reportedly killed four Tiv farmers, destroyed their farmlands, and displaced scores of families, as documented in a widespread attack across several local government areas.

Local residents and community leaders are now demanding urgent government intervention. They urge deployment of security forces to patrol the vulnerable Mararaba Udege axis, establish reliable reporting mechanisms for incidents of violence, and protect civilians and their farmlands from further attacks.

For many in Agboda and neighboring settlements, the crusade that began as an expression of hope and faith ended in fear and uncertainty — a stark reminder of the fragility of peace in a region long plagued by herder-farmer conflicts.

Dalena Reporters will continue to seek updates from security agencies and local sources as the situation unfolds.
