Eight Killed in Fresh Boko Haram Attacks in Borno as Senator Ndume Laments Assault

Maiduguri, 1 September 2025 — In a chilling resurgence of violence, eight people were killed in Borno State over the weekend, prompting Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) to express profound sorrow and outrage. The twin attacks—one in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area, and the other in Mussa, Askira/Uba LGA—have reignited concerns about the region's unrelenting insecurity.

On Saturday morning, suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked five farmers as they worked on their farmlands in Ngoshe, brutally cutting short their everyday livelihoods. That same night, militants struck again in Mussa, where three youths were killed, and several houses and shops were set ablaze, deepening the communities' grief and shock .

Senator Ndume, in a statement released Sunday night, described the incidents as “heartbreaking and deeply painful,” emphasizing that the victims—farmers and youths—were innocent individuals seeking nothing more than a peaceful life . He urged empathy and unity, underscoring the devastating human toll of these senseless tragedies.

While mourning the losses, Ndume also acknowledged the efforts of the military. He praised the sacrifices made by troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai, led by Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, for their ongoing efforts to restore security to Borno’s rural communities .

However, he made it clear that more needs to be done. “We will not fold our hands while our people are being attacked,” Ndume declared. He committed to lobbying for increased deployment of security personnel, access to sophisticated weaponry, the stationing of attack helicopters or fighter jets, improved intelligence capabilities, and a range of proactive security measures aimed at safeguarding farming communities .

In concluding his message, Ndume called on residents to stay vigilant and work closely with security agencies to prevent further carnage, emphasizing that resilience and unity are essential in confronting these threats
