EXCLUSIVE: Lawless Policemen Driving Against Traffic Kill ABU Graduate in Kaduna

Kaduna, 1 September 2025 —

A tragic incident in Kaduna has claimed the life of Engineer Abdurraheem Mustapha, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), as he was struck while riding his motorcycle by police officers allegedly driving against traffic along Sultan Road, near Garkuwa Hospital. The incident, reported by Sahara Reporters, has raised serious concerns over traffic behavior and police conduct.

According to Mustapha’s brother, Sabiu Mustapha Abubakar, the victim was unexpectedly hit in the head by a police officer while riding. Witnesses at the scene said that bystanders had to intervene to ensure he was taken to a hospital immediately. The family accused the police of attempting to cover up the incident—claiming it was a collision with another vehicle—an assertion directly contradicted by eyewitnesses.

Kaduna State Police have formally denied that the officers were driving against traffic. According to the state police spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, the Mobile Police personnel involved were on escort duty at a junction when a speeding motorcyclist collided with their stationary vehicle from behind. The motorcyclist—who was the passenger riding with Mustapha, as per the report—was rendered unconscious, and the rider fled the scene. Hassan stated that the officers “promptly rushed him to the hospital for medical attention” and reported the incident officially. Sadly, despite efforts, the victim later died while receiving treatment. An investigation is underway, and the officers have been directed to report to the station.
