Breaking: Trump and Netanyahu Meet as U.S. Heads Toward Government Shutdown

President Donald Trump hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House Tuesday amid mounting pressure in Washington as the U.S. edges closer to a federal government shutdown.

In a joint display, the two leaders unveiled a new 20-point peace proposal aimed at ending the Israel-Gaza conflict, with Trump expressing confidence that Hamas would eventually accept the plan. Netanyahu voiced his support, while warning that Israel would “finish the job” if the militant group rejected the proposal.

Meanwhile, in Congress, leaders from both parties convened urgently at the White House with Trump to avert a looming funding gap set to take effect October 1. Republicans demand a “clean” continuing resolution, while Democrats insist on including extensions of Affordable Care Act subsidies and other health provisions. Vice President J.D. Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson have already warned that the stalemate may lead to a shutdown.

As the clock winds down, federal agencies are preparing for possible furloughs and disruptions. The White House and Capitol Hill appear locked in a high-stakes political standoff where compromise or collapse could come in hours.
