Baba-Ahmed Urges Tinubu and Atiku Not to Contest 2027 Presidential Election

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice President Kashim Shettima, has publicly advised President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against contesting the 2027 presidential election. In an interview on Channels TV's "Politics Today," Baba-Ahmed emphasized the need for new leadership to address Nigeria's pressing challenges.

Baba-Ahmed, who served in the administration for 17 months before resigning, expressed concerns over the current political landscape and the importance of prioritizing national interest over personal ambition. He highlighted that both Tinubu and Atiku have had significant opportunities to lead and that it's time to allow fresh perspectives to emerge.

"We need leaders who are more focused on governance and less on political maneuvering," Baba-Ahmed stated. He also defended his decision to write an open letter to President Tinubu, urging him to concentrate on delivering good governance rather than seeking re-election.

The former adviser criticized the previous administration under President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that it failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians. He noted that his initial support for Buhari was based on the belief that he would be a better alternative to former President Goodluck Jonathan, but was ultimately disappointed by Buhari's performance.

Baba-Ahmed's remarks have sparked discussions about the future of Nigeria's leadership and the importance of prioritizing effective governance over political ambitions.
