Abia Governor Calls for Energy Transition Focus in Nigeria’s Extractive Industry

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has urged stakeholders in Nigeria's extractive sector to prioritize energy transition and industrial accountability. Speaking at the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) National Stakeholders’ Retreat and Board Meeting in Umuahia, Otti emphasized the need for NEITI to adapt to the evolving energy landscape.

He stated, “NEITI would do well to pay close attention to the evolution of this new ecosystem with respect to the business of exploration of mineral resources. It should set up systems that are pro-Nigeria in terms of reporting and industrial accountability to avoid a repeat of the costly mistakes of the past.”

Governor Otti highlighted that embracing the dynamics of both traditional and emerging energy sources is crucial for optimizing operations and curbing malpractices within the extractive industry.

The retreat, held in Umuahia, brought together key industry players to discuss strategies for sustainable resource management and transparency in Nigeria's extractive sector.
