Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff narrowly escaped injury after unidentified gunmen opened fire at his vehicle in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood on Sunday evening, October 18, leaving his driver and another man injured and triggering a major police investigation into a shooting that has raised fresh concerns about security in India’s entertainment industry.
The incident occurred near Pushpa Park in Juhu as Shroff was returning after playing football. According to police accounts reported by Indian media, three men travelling on a motorcycle approached the area and opened fire at the actor’s vehicle before fleeing. Shroff was not struck by any bullets and was reported to be safe following the attack.
Mumbai Police confirmed that the actor had sustained no gunshot injuries. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Kumar Garg said two people were injured, including Shroff’s driver, identified in media reports as Firdaus, who suffered an injury to his hand. The second injured man, identified in reports as Chauhan, was also receiving medical treatment. Both were taken for treatment following the incident.
The shooting reportedly occurred at approximately 7 p.m. local time, when people had gathered near the location, with some hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor. The sudden gunfire caused alarm as people reacted to the incident. Reports differed on the precise number of rounds fired, with some accounts indicating three shots and others reporting four. Investigators are expected to establish the sequence of events through forensic examination, witness statements and available surveillance footage.
Shroff, the son of veteran Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, is known for action films, martial arts performances and physically demanding stunt sequences. News of the attack quickly attracted national attention because of his celebrity status and the circumstances in which the shooting occurred. His father’s team subsequently reassured the public that the actor was safe.
One of the most significant developments in the investigation was a purported social media message claiming responsibility for the attack in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The message was attributed in media reports to individuals identified as Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu. It alleged that Shroff had previously been warned and threatened further action against people in the Bollywood industry who work with actor Salman Khan.
However, Mumbai Police had not confirmed the authenticity of the message or established that the gang was responsible for the shooting. Investigators are examining the alleged claim alongside other evidence to determine the attackers’ identities, their possible motive and whether the incident was connected to organised criminal activity. A claim of responsibility circulating online does not, by itself, prove who carried out an attack.
The alleged reference to Salman Khan has added another dimension to the case. Khan has faced security concerns and threats previously attributed to members or associates of the Bishnoi criminal network. In 2024, gunfire was reported outside his residence in Mumbai, prompting a criminal investigation and renewed discussion about threats directed at prominent figures in the Hindi film industry. The circumstances surrounding the Shroff shooting must nevertheless be investigated independently, and any connection between the cases requires evidence.
Mumbai Police have established multiple investigative teams, involving local police and crime branch personnel, to trace the suspects. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area, collecting ballistic evidence and reviewing information that could help reconstruct the attack. Police officials have said further details would be released as relevant information becomes available.
The investigation comes amid broader debate over the safety of actors, producers and other entertainment professionals in Mumbai. The city is the centre of India’s Hindi-language film industry, commonly known as Bollywood, and its most prominent performers frequently attract large crowds and public attention. While celebrity status can create additional security challenges, the shooting also placed ordinary people near the scene at risk.
The incident prompted a political response in Maharashtra, the state whose capital is Mumbai. State minister Ashish Shelar said he had spoken with Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti about the attack and confirmed that Shroff was safe. Opposition Congress figures also criticised the state government over law-and-order concerns, pointing to previous attacks and threats involving entertainment personalities. These political reactions reflect wider questions about public safety, although responsibility for the specific shooting remains a matter for investigators.
For residents of Juhu, the incident has renewed concerns about gun violence in a busy urban neighbourhood. Juhu is known for its film-industry connections, residential properties, restaurants and entertainment venues. A shooting in an area where people had gathered to see a celebrity illustrates how an attack directed at one individual can expose bystanders and road users to danger.
The investigation will need to establish whether the attackers deliberately targeted Shroff, whether they intended to intimidate him or someone associated with him, and whether the purported gang message is genuine. Police will also need to determine how the suspects approached and left the scene and whether any additional individuals helped plan or execute the attack. Until investigators provide verified findings, the motive and the identity of those responsible remain unresolved.
The case also highlights the role of digital evidence in modern criminal investigations. Social media posts and videos can provide investigators with potential leads, but they can also spread unverified allegations rapidly. Authorities must establish the origin and authenticity of such material before drawing conclusions about responsibility.
Although Shroff escaped physical harm, the injuries suffered by his driver and another man underline the seriousness of the incident. Their recovery and the investigation into the shooting remain important concerns as police work to establish what happened.
As of Sunday evening, no publicly confirmed finding had established who ordered or carried out the attack. The reported claim linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang remained unverified, and the investigation was continuing.
The shooting has placed renewed attention on the security of Bollywood personalities and the wider public in Mumbai. For now, the central questions are who fired the shots, why Shroff was targeted and whether the incident forms part of a wider pattern of threats against people connected to the film industry. The answers will depend on the evidence gathered by police rather than claims circulating online.
