Thousands of Canadians receiving the Canada Disability Benefit are set to receive their October payment this week, with the federal government continuing to provide monthly income support to eligible working-age people with disabilities.

The October 2026 Canada Disability Benefit payment is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, according to the Government of Canada's payment schedule. Canada Disability Benefit payments are normally issued on the third Thursday of each month.

The Canada Disability Benefit, introduced in 2025, is designed to provide additional financial assistance to low-income Canadians with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 64. The benefit is income-tested, meaning the amount a person receives can vary depending on their income and family circumstances.

For the July 2026 to June 2027 benefit period, the maximum monthly Canada Disability Benefit is $204.20, or up to $2,450.40 over a full year for someone who qualifies for the maximum amount.

However, not everyone who receives the benefit will receive the maximum amount. The federal government calculates individual entitlement based on the applicable income test and other eligibility requirements.

Who Can Receive the Canada Disability Benefit?

To qualify, an applicant generally must be between 18 and 64 years old and have an approved Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certificate from the Canada Revenue Agency.

Applicants must also meet the applicable residency or immigration-status requirements and have filed the required income tax returns. A person having an approved Disability Tax Credit does not automatically mean they are enrolled in the Canada Disability Benefit. A separate application for the benefit is required.

The government reviews eligibility and payment information annually. Recipients generally do not need to submit a completely new application every year as long as they continue meeting the program's requirements. For eligible recipients, the October Canada Disability Benefit payment date is:Thursday, October 15, 2026

The payment may arrive by direct deposit or cheque, depending on how the recipient receives federal benefit payments. Direct deposit generally provides the fastest access to the money.

The federal government says payments are issued on the third Thursday of every month. If a person's total entitlement for the July-to-June payment period is $240 or less, the benefit can instead be issued as a lump sum rather than monthly payments.

New $150 Supplemental Payment

October's regular Canada Disability Benefit payment should not be confused with the government's new $150 supplemental payment.

The federal government announced the supplemental payment in September 2026 to help eligible Canada Disability Benefit recipients offset costs associated with obtaining the Disability Tax Credit, which is required for the CDB.

The first group of eligible recipients began receiving the $150 payment on September 17, 2026. This group included people who had received the Canada Disability Benefit between July 2025 and June 2026.

People who became eligible for the Canada Disability Benefit from July 2026 onward, as well as people approved for a new or renewed Disability Tax Credit certificate, are scheduled to receive the $150 supplemental payment in winter 2027. The government says eligible recipients do not need to submit a separate application for the supplemental payment.

The federal government has said the supplemental payment is intended to reduce one of the financial barriers associated with obtaining the Disability Tax Credit.

Canada Disability Benefit Is Non-Taxable

Another important feature of the program is that Canada Disability Benefit payments are non-taxable. Recipients do not need to report the benefit as taxable income on their annual income tax return, and no tax slip is issued for the CDB.

However, filing an annual tax return remains important because the government uses tax information to determine continued eligibility and payment amounts.

What If an October Payment Is Missing?

Recipients who do not receive their expected payment should first check their banking information and payment details. People can also review their benefit information through the government's online services.

If a payment remains missing, recipients can contact Service Canada for assistance.

The government also recommends keeping personal information, including marital status and other circumstances that could affect eligibility, up to date. Changes such as marriage, entering a common-law relationship, separation or becoming widowed can affect the amount of the benefit.

A Growing Federal Disability Support Program

The Canada Disability Benefit represents a significant expansion of federal financial support for working-age Canadians with disabilities. Since the first payments were issued in July 2025, the program has provided direct monthly assistance to hundreds of thousands of low-income people with disabilities.

As of September 2026, the federal government reported that 335,650 people had received Canada Disability Benefit payments totalling more than $813 million.

The program is intended to complement, rather than replace, other federal and provincial supports. Eligibility for another disability-related program does not necessarily mean a person will automatically qualify for the CDB, because each program has its own rules and income calculations.

For Canadians relying on the benefit to help cover housing, food, transportation, medication and other everyday expenses, the October 15 payment will provide another important source of financial support.

With the Canada Disability Benefit now entering its second full benefit year, the federal government is continuing to adjust and expand the program while monitoring eligibility, payment levels and additional support for people who face financial barriers because of disability.
