Toronto police are searching for a driver who allegedly struck a parking enforcement officer and fled the scene after the officer issued a parking ticket in the city’s waterfront area on Monday afternoon.

Investigators said the incident happened at around 2:25 p.m. near Queens Quay East and Richardson Street. According to police, a parking enforcement officer had issued a ticket to a white 2017 Mercedes-Benz C63S convertible when the driver returned to the vehicle and became involved in an argument with the officer.

Police allege that the driver then got into the Mercedes and began to drive away, striking the parking enforcement officer in the process and also hitting another vehicle before fleeing the scene westbound on Queens Quay East.

The injured officer sustained minor injuries, authorities said.

Toronto police described the suspect as a man with a medium build and shoulder-length hair in braids. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly wearing a black hat, white T-shirt, black shorts and white shoes.

Investigators have not announced any arrests, and the suspect remained outstanding as of the latest police update. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the driver’s whereabouts to contact investigators.

The case adds to growing concerns about violence and aggression directed at parking enforcement officers in Toronto, many of whom carry out their duties in highly confrontational situations while issuing tickets and enforcing parking regulations across the city.
