ILORIN, Nigeria — Suspected Fulani terrorists have abducted a pregnant woman and two other residents after invading Abudu Community in Apado Ward, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria where they reportedly stole about ₦4 million during a late-night attack. The incident has heightened concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Kwara State.
According to reports, the heavily armed attackers stormed the community on Tuesday night, throwing residents into panic as they moved from house to house. Sources familiar with the incident said the gunmen initially came to rob residents before abducting three people, including a pregnant woman, and fleeing with the victims to an unknown destination.
The assailants reportedly made away with approximately ₦4 million in cash before carrying out the kidnappings. Residents said the attack lasted several minutes and left the community in fear, with many families fleeing their homes during the operation.
The Executive Chairman of Ilorin East Local Government Area, Hon. Lukman Olayinka, confirmed the incident in a video obtained by Sahara Reporters. He assured residents that security agencies had launched efforts to rescue the abducted victims and expressed optimism that they would regain their freedom.
Speaking in Yoruba, Olayinka said available intelligence suggested that the attackers were primarily motivated by robbery.
"The information we have is that those who were kidnapped won't stay long. The kidnappers came with the aim of robbery; they came to steal money. But when they got to the community and saw the kind of money there, they believed the residents had even more money. By God's grace, they will be apprehended," he said.
Security agencies have since begun efforts to track the kidnappers and secure the release of the victims. However, as of the time of reporting, the whereabouts of the pregnant woman and the two other abducted residents remain unknown.
The latest attack adds to growing security concerns in Kwara State, where residents have witnessed an increase in armed robberies, kidnappings, and attacks by criminal groups in recent months. Community leaders have continued to call for stronger security patrols and intelligence operations to protect vulnerable communities.
Authorities have urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to report it to security agencies. Meanwhile, residents remain hopeful that the victims will be rescued safely as security personnel intensify search operations across the area.
