OYO, Nigeria — Fresh concerns over public security emerged in Oyo State after authorities confirmed that suspected terrorists carried out an attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility in Ogbomoso, raising alarm over the targeting of government institutions in the region.

According to reports, the incident happened late Tuesday night at the Nigeria Immigration Service passport office located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin corridor. Initial findings indicate that a group of armed assailants breached the facility and confronted officers who were on duty at the time of the attack.

Authorities said the attackers overpowered personnel stationed at the office before fleeing the scene. Reports indicated that service weapons and other items were taken during the operation, although officials had not publicly released a final inventory at the time of reporting.

The incident has intensified concerns about insecurity across parts of southwestern Nigeria, particularly following recent reports of attacks and abductions in surrounding areas. Security analysts say assaults on government facilities often raise broader concerns about operational readiness and public confidence in security institutions.

Following confirmation of the incident, the Oyo State Police Command announced that it had opened an investigation to determine how the attackers gained access to the facility and whether additional security measures are required to protect public offices across the state.

As of Wednesday, authorities had not publicly identified the individuals responsible or announced arrests connected to the attack. Officials also had not reported confirmed casualties linked to the incident. Investigations remain ongoing as security agencies continue assessments of the affected location.

The latest development adds to continuing national conversations about strengthening protection for public infrastructure and improving coordinated responses to emerging security threats across Nigeria.
