A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Shops at Don Mills shopping centre in Toronto on Tuesday morning, according to local authorities.

Toronto police said officers were called to the area of Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East shortly after 10:40 a.m. following reports of a pedestrian collision in the busy commercial district. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports that a woman had been hit by a vehicle inside the shopping plaza parking lot.

Paramedics initially reported that the victim had sustained life-threatening injuries. However, despite emergency efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police have not yet released the identity or age of the victim pending notification of family members.

Investigators continued examining the scene throughout the afternoon as police worked to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Officials have not yet said whether charges are expected or if factors such as speed, distraction, or visibility may have contributed to the incident.

The Shops at Don Mills area is one of Toronto’s busiest mixed-use retail districts, attracting heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic daily. The shopping centre is located near the intersection of Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East in the Don Mills neighborhood of North York.

The latest tragedy adds to growing concerns over pedestrian safety across Toronto, where several fatal pedestrian-related incidents have been reported in recent months. Road safety advocates have repeatedly called for stricter traffic enforcement, improved pedestrian infrastructure, and increased driver awareness in high-traffic urban areas.

Toronto police said the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses surveillance footage to contact investigators.
