Toronto police have arrested seven suspects, including five youths, following the stabbing of a teenage boy in the Flemingdon Park area last weekend. Investigators say the violence stemmed from escalating confrontations between two groups earlier in the day.
The incident occurred on May 10 in the neighbourhood near Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East. According to police, the victim and several friends were initially involved in a physical altercation with another group before tensions escalated later that day.
Authorities said the victim was later walking through Flemingdon Park when the suspects allegedly returned in vehicles and confronted him again. Police allege that seven suspects surrounded the teen, engaged him in another fight, brandished a knife, and stabbed him during the altercation.
Emergency crews transported the victim to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Toronto Police Service confirmed that all seven suspects were arrested without incident. Because five of those charged are minors, their identities are protected under Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Police announced the following charges:
A 16-year-old male from Toronto was charged with attempted murder.
A 17-year-old male from Toronto was charged with aggravated assault.
Another 16-year-old male from Toronto was charged with aggravated assault.
Two 15-year-old males from Bowmanville were each charged with aggravated assault.
Authorities also confirmed that two adult suspects were among those arrested, though further details regarding their charges were still emerging at the time of reporting.
The stabbing has once again raised concerns about youth violence in parts of Toronto, particularly in communities already affected by gang activity and repeated violent incidents. Flemingdon Park has experienced several high-profile violent crimes over the years, including shootings, stabbings, and organized gang-related investigations.
Community leaders and safety advocates have repeatedly called for stronger youth intervention programs, improved recreational opportunities, and increased mental health support to help prevent young people from becoming involved in violent crime.
Toronto police say the investigation remains ongoing and are urging anyone with information, surveillance footage, or witness accounts related to the stabbing to contact investigators.
