Paris Saint-Germain secured a place in their second consecutive UEFA Champions League final after battling to a 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, sealing a dramatic 6-5 aggregate victory in the semifinal clash. The defending European champions survived intense late pressure in Munich to continue their pursuit of another continental title.
The French side entered the second leg holding a narrow 5-4 advantage from a thrilling first encounter and wasted little time extending their lead. Ousmane Dembele struck after just three minutes, finishing clinically from a perfectly timed cutback by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to stun the home crowd at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern responded immediately with sustained attacking pressure as Michael Olize and Luis Diaz both came close to equalizing. Despite dominating possession for long stretches, the German champions struggled to break through PSG’s disciplined defensive setup.
Goalkeepers on both sides delivered crucial performances throughout the match. Bayern veteran Manuel Neuer produced an outstanding save to deny Joao Neves in the first half, while PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov responded moments later with a sharp stop to keep out Jamal Musiala from close range.
As the second half progressed, Bayern pushed more aggressively in search of the goals needed to overturn the deficit. PSG, however, remained dangerous on the counterattack and nearly extended their advantage through chances created by Desire Doue and Kvaratskhelia.
Bayern eventually found a breakthrough deep into stoppage time when Harry Kane fired home an equalizer, scoring in his seventh straight Champions League appearance. The goal marked Kane’s 55th across all competitions this season, but it ultimately came too late to prevent Bayern’s elimination.
PSG manager Luis Enrique praised his team’s resilience after the hard-fought victory, describing the contest as “very intense” against one of Europe’s strongest clubs. The Spanish coach has now guided PSG to back-to-back Champions League finals, further cementing the club’s rise among Europe’s elite football powers.
With the victory, PSG advanced to the final in Budapest, where they will face Arsenal on May 30. Arsenal booked their place after defeating Atletico Madrid 1-0 to complete a 2-1 aggregate semifinal triumph on Tuesday.
For Bayern Munich, the defeat ended hopes of winning a continental treble this season. Although the club has already secured the Bundesliga title, elimination from Europe means the German Cup remains the only additional trophy available this campaign.
The upcoming Champions League final is expected to draw global attention as PSG attempt to defend their European crown against an Arsenal side seeking its first modern-era Champions League title. Football analysts are already describing the matchup as one of the most anticipated European finals in recent years.
