Armed terrorists reportedly launched a late-night attack on a community in Jigawa State, leaving at least one resident seriously injured after being shot in the leg during the assault. The attack has heightened fears among residents over worsening insecurity and recurring bandit violence across northern Nigeria.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents who fled their homes to escape the violence. During the incident, one resident was hit by gunfire and sustained injuries to the leg before local vigilantes and security operatives reportedly responded to the scene.
Community members said the attackers operated for several minutes before retreating into nearby bush paths, a tactic commonly used by armed groups carrying out raids in rural communities across northern Nigeria. Residents expressed frustration over what they described as inadequate security presence and delayed response from authorities.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns about persistent attacks by bandits and terrorist groups in several northern states, including Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kaduna, Niger, and parts of Jigawa. In recent months, communities have experienced repeated raids involving killings, kidnappings, cattle rustling, and destruction of property.
Security agencies have yet to officially disclose the identities of the attackers or confirm whether arrests have been made following the incident. However, local residents called on the federal and state governments to intensify military operations and improve protection for vulnerable rural communities frequently targeted by armed groups.
