Armed terrorists have reportedly killed many people and abducted several others during fresh attacks on communities in Southern Kaduna, deepening fears over worsening insecurity across Nigeria’s northwest and north-central regions.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed vulnerable communities under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically and forcing terrified residents to flee into surrounding bushes for safety. Witnesses said multiple villagers were kidnapped during the raids, while homes and properties were left deserted as panic spread through the affected areas.
The latest violence adds to a growing pattern of deadly attacks and mass abductions that have continued to plague Kaduna State despite repeated military operations and security deployments. Southern Kaduna, in particular, has witnessed frequent incidents involving killings, kidnappings, and assaults on rural communities over the past several years.
Residents accused security authorities of failing to adequately protect remote communities that remain exposed to armed groups operating through forest corridors linking Kaduna with neighboring states. Community leaders have repeatedly called for stronger military presence and rapid-response security operations to prevent further attacks.
Recent incidents in Kaduna have drawn national and international attention following repeated mass kidnappings and deadly raids targeting villagers, worshippers, and local leaders. Earlier this year, gunmen attacked communities in Kauru Local Government Area, killing residents and abducting a Catholic priest alongside several villagers.
Security analysts warn that armed groups continue to exploit difficult terrain, weak rural security infrastructure, and slow emergency response systems to carry out coordinated attacks across northern Nigeria. Human rights organisations have also criticised authorities over what they describe as inadequate protection for civilians living in high-risk communities.
As of press time, authorities had yet to release an official statement confirming the exact number of abducted persons from the latest Southern Kaduna attacks. Search and rescue efforts were reportedly ongoing while residents remained fearful of additional raids.
