Youth groups in Southern Borno have announced plans to stage a массов protest on May 11, 2026, in response to worsening insecurity in the region and the continued captivity of hundreds of abducted women and children.

According to reports, the protest is aimed at drawing urgent attention to the plight of at least 416 individuals mostly women and children who were reportedly abducted by suspected Islamic terrorist groups in recent attacks across communities in Borno State.

The planned demonstration reflects growing frustration among residents, who say government efforts to secure the region and rescue victims have been insufficient. Community members have expressed anger over what they describe as prolonged silence and inadequate action from authorities.

Sources indicate that the abductees were taken during coordinated attacks on vulnerable communities, a pattern that has become increasingly common in northeastern Nigeria. Families of the victims are said to be living in distress, with many uncertain about the fate of their loved ones months after the incidents.

Organizers of the protest say the demonstration will serve as a peaceful call for accountability, urging both state and federal governments to intensify military operations and prioritize the safe return of those in captivity. They also plan to highlight the broader impact of insecurity on livelihoods, education, and daily life in the region.

Borno State remains the epicenter of Nigeria’s long-running insurgency, with armed groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) continuing to carry out attacks, kidnappings, and массов killings despite ongoing military efforts. (

Analysts warn that the continued abduction of civilians particularly women and children underscores the persistent security challenges facing the region. They stress that without sustained and coordinated intervention, communities will remain vulnerable to further attacks.

As preparations for the May 11 protest gather momentum, attention is expected to shift to how authorities respond to the demands of the youths and whether concrete steps will be taken to address the escalating crisis.
