Tension erupted in Awka, the Anambra State capital, as youths and residents staged a protest over the alleged killing of a 26-year-old man, demanding a full investigation and accountability from authorities.

The protest, which drew scores of demonstrators, saw participants blocking major roads while carrying placards calling for justice and an end to alleged abuses by security operatives in the area. The demonstration was triggered by the reported death of the young man, which has sparked anger and renewed concerns about security enforcement practices in the state.

Eyewitness accounts and reports indicate that the incident occurred earlier in the week, after which residents mobilized in large numbers to express their dissatisfaction. Protesters accused local security operatives of excessive force and demanded that the state government intervene urgently to prevent further escalation.

Community members said the deceased was a well-known young resident whose death has left the area in shock. Many of the protesters insisted that the incident reflects a broader pattern of insecurity and alleged misconduct by certain enforcement units operating in the state.

Authorities were later called upon to address the protesters, with appeals for calm and assurances that an investigation would be conducted. Security agencies have also been urged to restore public confidence by ensuring transparency in handling the case.

The demonstration highlights ongoing tensions in parts of Anambra State, where residents have repeatedly called for reforms in security operations and stronger protection of civilians.
